E Cigarette E-Liquid or E-Juice

PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerin)

PG and VG is the main ingredient of the e cigarette e-liquid, in this articles will give you some information in regarding PG and VG.     E Cigs Electronic Cigarettes Australia offer zero nicotine e-liquid.

What are PG and VG?

Choosing the wrong PG/VG ratio can put first-timers off so be careful to choose the right level for your electronic cigarettes equipment.

PROPYLENE GLYCOL (PG)

PG stands for Propylene Glycol, a petroleum by-product. The fluid has no odour or colour, and is less viscous than VG. In vaping it is used to provide a ‘throat hit’, which some users claim is similar to the sensation experienced when smoking tobacco. It also carries flavour more effectively than VG, meaning it’s the most commonly used suspension fluid for flavour concentrates and nicotine. Thinner Consistency: Due to the fact that propylene glycol has a runny consistency, PG e-liquid is thinner than the VG variety, and is easily absorbed by the polyfill and cotton fabric inside cartomizers and wick tanks. Does not affect flavor: Propylene glycol is a tasteless odorless substance, so it doesn’t alter the flavor of the e-liquid in any way. Less Gunk: The low density of the juice also means that gunk doesn’t build up on the heating element of your vaporizer as fast as it does when thicker vegetable glycerin liquid is used. Stronger throat hit: It’s also a powerful humectant, so while it will dry your mouth and throat if used consistently, PG also produces a stronger throat hit, similar to that of tobacco cigarettes. Allergy Risk: On the down side, propylene glycol has been known to cause allergic reactions in some e-cig users. These can vary from minor reactions, like a tingling sensation in the throat, to serious irritations on various parts of the body. If you experience any unusual symptoms after vaping PG e-liquid, it’s best to stop using it immediately and switch to vegetable glycerin. Consult your doctor if necessary.

What is it used for?

Propylene Glycol can be found in various common household items, which is include:

What should I be aware of when vaping PG?

Some people find a high level of PG irritating to the throat. Allergies to PG are rare, but have been reported. If you find yourself coming out in a rash, or suffering other unpleasant reactions after using PG-based e-fluid, you should look at using 100% VG juice instead. Many vendors are starting to offer this as an option. The most common side effects of using e-liquid containing propylene glycol are: sore throat, dry mouth and increased on thirsty. These symptoms usually last anywhere from a few days to a week as the body gets used to the propylene glycol. It is advised to drink more water and liquids then usual for the first few weeks of using your e cig. Be aware that any unusual reactions could be side effects from quitting smoking, and not necessarily because of the PG.

VEGETABLE GLYCERIN (VG)

VG stands for Vegetable Glycerin. It is a natural chemical, derived from vegetable oil, so is safe for vegetarians. It is commonly used in e-liquid to give a ‘thick’ sensation to vapour. The hit from a high VG fluid is a lot smoother than with PG, making it more suitable for sub-ohm vaping. VG has a slightly sweet taste and is considerably thicker than PG. While nicotine and flavourings are commonly suspended in PG. Have you seen images of vapers with large billowing stacks of vapor? They’re using a VG base for that effect.

What is it used for?

Again, it can be found in numerous medical, food and personal care products:

What should I be aware of when using VG?

The increased thickness of VG means it can reduce the life of atomisers quicker than PG-based juice. High VG liquids clog up coils more rapidly, and will not work well, if at all, in certain tanks. Older products are especially susceptible, particularly models that use smaller coils such as clearomizers. The Nautilus range, Innokin iclears and eGo tanks are some of the more well-known tanks that are known to have difficulties dealing with high VG fluid. The most common side effect of vaping high VG e-liquid is a dry mouth, sore throat, and increased thirst. Again, be sure to drink plenty of water and take a break from vaping if necessary.

Does PG or VG safer to inhale?

Both VG and PG are used in a variety of foods that you consume on a daily basis, and are deemed safe by the FDA. However, in some small cases, people have experienced allergic reactions to propylene glycol; the most common is skin rash.

What PG/VG ratio should I use?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to this. It depends on the kind of vaping experience you prefer. Many people use various levels of PG and VG for different purposes:

The Equipment of Electronic Cigarette to use with E-Juice

It is not as simple as deciding on a high VG or PG fluid and hoping for the best. It all comes down to your electronic cigarette equipment. If it isn’t suitable for the job, it can lead to unpleasant throat irritation or wicking problems resulting in dry hits.

Tips for PG/VG DIY E-Liquid

The best way to find your PG/VG ‘sweet spot’ to experiment by making your own e-liquid. It’s surprisingly easy to do, and very cost-effective. We will look at this in more detail in a future article, but here are some key things to be aware of:

What are Singler and Doubler E-liquid/E-juice ?

Singler

What are Singler?

Singlers are a full bottle of e-juice which is ready to vape and is not designed to have any nicotine added. If you’re vaping without nicotine, then you will want to use for the singler option of eliquid.

Doubler

What are Doubler?

Doublers, on the other hand, are designed to make it easier for people to add nicotine to their e-liquid. These bottles come half filled, but the flavour is double concentrated. You generally wouldn’t vape the contents of a doubler without adding an unflavoured nicotine base to the bottle. This is because the flavour would be too strong and not the way the juice manufacturer intended. A doubler or singler bottle look identical, and the only difference is that a doubler will contain half a bottle of liquid whereas a singler will be filled to the top. Those who are planning on using a doubler would have previously purchased a bottle of unflavoured nicotine base from an overseas vendor as at this stage nicotine is not regulated for sale in Australia. The doubler bottle is simply filled with the nicotine base and is then ready to be vaped. It should be noted that if you are planning to add your own nicotine you need to add double the strength that you want to vape. For example if you are looking for a 9mg strength, you would purchase unflavoured nicotine at 18mg. Once that is added to the liquid in your doubler, the nicotine strength will be diluted by half, creating a 9mg bottle of e-liquid. Doubler is a double-strength concentrated vaping eliquid which needs to be diluted before use for vaping. All you need to do is import your own nicotine, and add it to the doublers. Most of doublers come in bottles twice their volume to make adding the nicotine easier. Basically you take your bottle of doubler, and fill it to the top with nicotine, give it a shake, and it is ready to vape. There are different level of nicotine use in personal vapourisers: If you want to use nicotine on your eliquid, please always start with low level of nicotine, if you are vape too much nicotine you can feel dizzy or nauseous! If you start hiccuping, feel nauseous or dizzy while vaping, consider moving to a lower-strength nicotine level. Once you have decided on which nicotine level you want to start vaping, the easiest way to get started is to import nicotine in double the strength of what you want to vape.   You can import your nicotine from overseas like China, USA and New Zealand are by far the most common places to source nicotine.

WARNING: DO NOT BUY "100% Nicotine" or "PURE NICOTINE". This is the equivalent of 1000mg/ml concentration, and is extremely dangerous to handle by anyone not in a hazmat suit.

After you mix your nicotine to your doubler then shake well, and wait for it to steep.

What is steeping?

Steeping is the process in which nicotine oxidizes with your e-liquid. The benefit is to the taste of a good e-liquid, and almost all e-liquid, benefits from steeping. Each product page has a recommended "steep time" before the e-liquid is as it's best, but generally fruits and mints take the shortest amount of time to steep, followed by bakery-type flavours and tobacco. The shelf-life of e-liquids starts the moment nicotine is added, there is a period of steeping, then a period of ideal oxidation/flavour, then a period of decline. Generally speaking, e-liquid is best consumed within 6 months of adding nicotine, but they do not go off. To speed up the steeping process by giving the e-liquid a shake every once in a while, applying gentle heat (for example, a crock-pot filled with water on low) or some people even use ultra-sonic jewelry cleaners!

Everything you need to know about steeping E-Juice

What is steeping e-juice/e-liquid?

Steeping e-liquid, in its simplest form, is the process in which you allow a bottle of e-liquid (or e-juice) to the "age" or mature in the bottle. Similar to the aging process for wine, its basically the similar thing. Steeping is a process that mixes and oxidizes the ingredients :VG and PG base, flavorings, nicotine, of the e-juice. Just wine, steeped e-liquid taste much better and smoother. The oxidation of the ingredients replaces volatile compounds like alcohol with oxygen. The process removes the harsh perfume-like taste and also changes the color of the e-juice. So, you’ll know that your e-juice is properly steeping when you see that it has become considerably darker from the original color. Wine uses the extracts of natural fruits (namely grapes) When you extract the flavor from a fruit such as grapes, you get a concentrate form of the fruit. However along with the grape flavor, these extracts also contain natural alcohols or solvents. These alcohols are necessary for fruits to form the flavor of the fruit. These alcohols are safe to eat, drink, or vape. However, as you might expect, alcohols do not taste good to drink or vape. They can add a harsh or "chemical" taste to wine or e-liquid. Allowing wine or e-liquid to age (or steep) helps these alcohols to either evaporate or chemically break down and become infused with the flavors and actually enhance them. Steeping helps reduce or remove that chemical taste, harshness, and all around improve the flavors.

Why Steep?

Unless you’re making DIY e-juice, you may or may not steep. E-liquid sold commercially are actually pre-steeped e-juice as the steeping process begins as soon as it’s mixed. From that point on, when the e-juice in the manufacturing facility, travels to the store, sits on the shelf and until you actually vape it, it’s steeping pretty much all the time. If you still get a harsh taste, steeping might be in order otherwise, you can skip it and enjoy your vape right away. For the homemade e-juices, steeping is almost always mandatory. Also to do steeping or not is also a matter of personal preferences. If you like a harsh and intense taste, you can start vaping right away, but if you prefer a smoother yet richer taste, steep out of your e-liquid until it achieves your desired taste. Steeping is not obligatory, but it does improve and enhance the overall of your vaping experience. If you have the time then do the steeping process but if not that if fine as well but you will be missing out is some of your e juice flavor potential. Basically, if you like a flavor, it doesn't need steeping but if you don't like the taste of a flavor, especially if it has a harsh or "chemical taste" then I recommend that you try the steeping to see if you like it better.

The Steeping Process

Step 1: Shake the bottle lightly for 1-2 minutes, don't over shake, avoid creating too many bubbles (especially the very tiny bubbles), be sure to flip the bottle over at some point to make sure everything is mixed well. This is the only time in the steeping process that you will shake the bottle. Step 2: Remove the twist off cap and store your closed e-juice bottles in a dark, cool place away from pets, children, and anyone who might for some reason drink or knock the bottle over. The goal of this step is to allow the natural alcohols and solvents to rise to the top of the liquid and evaporate. That's why we only shake the liquid in the first step, because we want the alcohols to rise to the top of the liquid. Step 3: Let the bottle sit for about 24 hours or more and when you find yourself fantasizing about how good the juice will taste once its done steeping, you might as well walk over and give the bottle a light squeeze to get all of the air out of the bottle (without squeezing any juice out) The more times you do this the better, but don't stress about it, even just once halfway through is okay. Step 4: Put the cap back on and let it sit for two days. Make sure the bottle remains in a safe place at a moderate temperature and doesn't get moved around a lot. Step 5: Repeat steps 2,3, and 4 until you notice a change in flavor or color, if you want, you can repeat steps 2,3, and 4 for up to two weeks. You will not really notice much difference if you do it over 2 weeks.

How to speed up the Steeping process

There are several approaches to speed up the e-juice steeping process, which is to heating up the liquid and it is recommended to using glass bottles for this process. Warm Water: this is the most commonly used technique. Fill the bowl with warm water and sit your glass e-juice bottle inside after the water reaches room temperature, remove the caps to let any vaporized volatile ingredients get out of the bottle and shake the bottles really well, and sit them in a dark, cool place. This not only helps the contents blend together but also speeds up oxidization process of your e-liquid. Others way is to use microwave, heater, slow cooker and any others way you can think to heating up your e-juice, if you google it then you will find many way to help you with it. Good Luck and Happy Vaping.
